I didnt really know how to word the title so please excuse me if this is not what you expected.

All of us who keep cichlids or other larger "aggressive" fish know that there are exceptions to the rules, since each fish has its individual personalities. I personally have had success in keeping the following fish together peacefully in the past and in the present.

JD's
RD's
Midas
GT's
Tiger O's
Cubans
Nicaragua
Jag's

All of which are considered to be aggressive fish. Keeping the above fish together successfully is of course not rare, and do to their individual personalities they can get along fine.

My question is: Are there any cichlids or any other intelligent large fish that just will NOT tolerate anything else 100% of the time. I mainly wonder about fish like Wolf Cichlids, Wolf fish, Puffers or even black nasty's since most of what I read on them says they are the devil in carnate destroying all in site. Has it been done successfully long-term?

Im not sure about the fish you've listed but i've had success with the fish in my sig all in the same tank together for awhile now. I love how my convicts interact with me when im cleaning the tank or feeding them.
They'll sometimes flare up at each other and follow my finger around.

My gouramis on the other hand, are very interactful. My kissing gouramis will kiss the tip of my finger thinking i have food in it waiting to be dropped.

I've actually kept a gar with my current stock as of right now (in sig).

- Glad someone made a thread about this! :)

Id bet the house there is not one species of fish that will not tolerate other fish "100%" of the time. Every fish has there own personality and all it takes is one fish in a species to be different in there species normal behaviors to make it not 100%.

I think so too, I would like people to tell their experiences showing this to be true.

I had a seven inch long Bluegill that lived in a 75 gallon tank for a few years with five Goldfish and he picked out a spot of the tank and would not let any of the Goldfish bottom fed near his spot in the tank. But he would swim around and not eat the Goldfish around him. I kind of wish I had a 300 or a 500 gallon at the time for them though.

I have 2 bluegill, and they are pretty timid. The biggest one 5-6" was keeping the smaller bluegill and a pumpkinseed (4") scared so I moved him to my cichlid tank where he fits in great. The pumkinseed and other bluegill live with a similar size GT and 3 1-2" sunfish (pumpkinseed, green and Longear) 4" Yellow Bullhead a 4" sailfin pleco and 2 2" cories. No problems.

I have had alot of success keeping aggressive fish together without issue.
