I know that I have read people saying how their GT's and JD's eat from their hands and are very owner responsive. My GT seems pretty bipolar. He either begs for food and almost takes it from my hand, or he acts really skittish and runs and hides from me. Any experience or advice on getting cichlids like these to warm up better?

GTs are smarter fish. theyll learn to not be afraid. even my freakin blood parrots arent afraid of my hand. they used to be the biggest pansies.

I find that fish are more responsive when they don't see you too well. Darkened room, no light behind you etc.

Sometimes my GT will beg for food and almost take it from my hand. Other times, he acts really spooked and swims back and forth across the tank, stopping to hide behind decorations!

Spend much more time around the tank. Also find a favorite treat and spoil him/her once and a while.

my jd is just baely eatin from my hand and he swimming aorund my fingers at certain tiem then other times he enarly smashes thru the sid eof the tank getting away. The time she msot responsive is when the lights r off in the room but his tank lights r on.

usually if they have tankmates, especially dithers, they tend to be a lot more active and responsive
