Hi everyone and monsterfishkeepers.com! I am not sure if this is in the right forum and I'm sorry if it is. I just started a great fish hobby and ive got three jack dempseys (2 of them about 1 inch long and one half and inch). These are the fish that i picked to start with since I've heard they are very hardy and are tolerant of many things. Well, in this starter 10 gallon tank (nobody go into shock that I have a small tank because I will upgrade to bigger one this christmas.) I want to add some more fish. Maybe two more fish until i get the hang of it. Any Suggestions? :) :) :) Thanks in advance.

How bigs the new tank? That depends on what you can mix with them. :)

Do not add anymore fish until you have that larger tank you are talking about. When you get it and get it cycled let us know and we can give you some ideas.
I have never kept JD's before, so I don't know how aggressive they are. All I keep are Oscars and convicts.

I have a JD. He complety ripped the jaw off a gt his size.. They arn't as agresive to non-cichlids.

Yes. I guess so I should wait until I have a bigger tank. I just noticed they are really are aggressive- alot. I put in a porcelain(or something like that) log in there, and then the biggest Jack Dempsey got in. It began to bite the others who tried to get in there. So, I took out the log and now they are just swimming. :) Just trying to keep the peace. I have some pictures here... I am not sure If these pictures will work though.

Is that dark one a dempsey? Looks weird.

I was wondering the same thing but about all of them. Clearer pix would help.

I have 2 year old pair in my cichlid set up, can be aggresive at times.

these fish will get way to big for just one of them in a ten gallon. what size tank are you upgrading to? to help break aggresion, you need to provide territory for all, with just the one "log" they are going to fight over who gets it. and this behavour only gets worst when they mature. even some plastic plants will help.

I don't think that smaller guy is a JD, not a great pic, but looks sorta like a juvi manganise maybe?

add a pacu or 2 and depending on what size of tank u get u can get ethier firemouths, convicts, oscars

that third fish on the bottom is not a jack it is a managuense be careful they can be agressive
