I have two books that I use as reference, one is "Encyclopedia of Aquarium & Pond Fish" by David Alperton (Dorling Kindersley 2008) which covers off the fundamentals of fish, fish keeping and water maintenance, the other is "FRESHWATER FISHES OF THE WORLD" by Dr Gunther Sterba (Vista Books 1962). My Step-Dad found this when clearing out an old loft. This is the best book for identifying fish, it's in near perfect condition and with a few colour pictures to boot, which for a book of its age is quite something.

What books do you guys own? Are there any Aquarium "Must Have" books that we should know about?

I used to own an old book that got real tattered and I had to throw out so IDK the name or anything, but now I actually shy away from buying books since the internet has so much endless information on so many specific species. It also is never outdated like books tend to be. Since the book I had was published, so many new species have entered the hobby

Fenner's "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" and Paletta's "The New Marine Aquarium" are our guidebooks for anything saltwater. Start with Paletta, because it gives more setup information, and then move onto Fenner once you're ready to stock. These are both amazing books.

I'm not much of a book person. I get alot of what I need off the net. This is what I have, though.

But, "The Atlas" is a must have. My edition is a bit old...

the Atlas is a good book but try to find it in the internet. there is a LFS near me selling a newish edition for almost $200.

I personally would love to get the monster fish keepers books. I've had a few chances to get them and didn't and Now I wish I would have.

Tankbusters,Jurassic Fishes,and of course,the Atlas.

Tullock, Natural Reef Aquariums is still one of my favorites w/ reguards from going FW to SW. And I have an old TFH book on Tang African Cichlids my father gave me. lol alot of the scientific names are out-dated in it >.<. And a closet full of random Aquarium magazines I've collected over the years.

Who needs a book when I have my professors, first hand experience, and of course you guys!
