Hi, I am now a microtank keeper thanks to the appartment rules here. Having a ten gal tank rule is just lovely....Anyhows...

Are any of you monster fish keepers into fish rescue or do you just go the store and buy your fish?
At our hospital right now there is one pacu and two irrescent sharsk living in what appears to be 135 gal tanks. The foot long pacu went for a face smacking while I was watching the fish. The irrescent sharks are still babies of about six inches long. Would be nice if some monster tank keeper came and gave them a real home.

PS: I really enjoyed looking at your large aquariums and wish you monster fish keepers would put up more pictures. I especially liked the pictures of the payara, a fish that I've never heard of before.

Most of my big fish have been rescued. I grow some of them out too. There are several members on here who spent a lot of money saving fish:)

:welcome: and thanks for the nice comments:)

i myslef have spent quite a load of cash and tankspace rescuing fish. like my fialed attemp of rescuing a baby sterelt sturgeon. i spend 100 or so dollars between a tank, meds, and food trying to nurse that little guy back from his horrible condition. he was doing great and was actually eating agian (a really big challenge with sick sturgeon) whe he suddely just died while i was out getin more black worms for him. heres a few pics of the little guy
now im considering settin up a rubbermaid to try again with a healthy one...

Welcome to MFK.
A 10g rule is limiting but there are a few great minimonsters around, like lorenzi puffers, SA leaf fish, or maybe even a single peppermint pikehead.

Too bad about the sturgeon. Sounds like my experience with trying to nurse a three spot gourami someone gave me. Was thin with hole in the head disease. I tried TLC, a whole ten gal tank just for the gourami, meds and the gourami died anyways.

Thanks for the suggestion...
My brother had puffers, they were so sensitive they would die within days. I think there were three of them before he gave up.
For starters, I really don't want any fish that are sensitive or demanding because I prefer low care tanks.

Next fish rescue situations and local breeders are where I look first for fishies.
So...I think I'll stick with my plan for a pair of killifish, they will be happy in my small tank and hopefully small enough to keep the tank low care.
Plus I'm trying to save a doomed harlequin rasbosa from the same hospital tanks I mentioned.

Naturally I can then use photoshop and pose my "monster" killifish and rasboras next to some normally large object like a car...:naughty:
