So today I went to some lady's house to pick up a 145 gallon tank I bought from her off CL. I get there and the tank is absolutely disgusting, but for 100 bucks, I couldn't complain. As me and a friend of mine started moving these pieces of slate out of the tank, he saw something moving around. Turns out there were still live fish in there, when she had drained the tank about 4 weeks ago. So for about 4 weeks, these poor guys were sitting in a couple of inches of water, no filtration, no air, no food (other than a dead fish and a carcass I found in there.) And to top it all off, they had a beta in there with all the other fish. Poor thing looks like something had been gnawing on it's fins.

Long story short, I had a 10 gallon tank sitting around which they're in now since I didn't want to drop them in any of my other tanks. The stuff on top is food, the stuff on the bottom was from the dirty water while transferring these guys.

I recently tried to save a lemon tetra after it had been left alone in a tank in a house for about 6 months with no filtration or air or anything. Transferring the fish put it into shock and it didn't make it though. All the other fish in the tank looked like they have been dead for awhile.
I kept the tank and some equipment though, can't argue with free stuff.

Good job with saving these little guys, got plans for them?

Thanks!

I was originally looking for a 180 gallon tank for my Brown Knife, Sen Bichir and Ompock catfish. This was too good a deal to pass up, so I guess I'll set it up and move the pleco in with the other 3 and put the other guys in my 26g bow front with my Golden Wonder Killie and Oranda. The Beta is in a one gallon glass thingy, my mother in law might take him.

They seem to be doing fine right now and starting to move around and eating a bit. Sorry to hear about the Tetra.

I did not know that! It was actually funny watching the Beta stare at the food on top for a good 10 minutes before eating it. Based on how the other fish are acting, I think sinking food is all they ever got!

Small world! I didn't end up getting the supplies because I didn't even have the tank yet! Now that I do, I guess it's time to seriously start looking at stuff I'm gonna need. You got anything left?

My issue right now is the tank I got is a 60" x 18" x 30" which is about a 140g. I was originally going for a 180g because of the 6' length since I like my fish to be happy and comfortable. I've got a Brown Knife that's about 5 inches right now, and having never had one, I don't know what sized tank she'd be comfortable in. I've heard of 75g being fine, but I can't imagine a 12" fish being happy with only a 4' long tank!
I know this isn't the right section of the forum, but do you think a 140g is big enough? Also, my original plan was for bulkheads and pipes for drain and return but this tank is made out of tempered glass which from my understanding can't be drilled at all. So I don't know if I should clean this one up, sell it, and go back to my original build, or just change the set-up I was going to have and keep this tank, which would probably be the much cheaper route?
Also, how do you do water changes on a large, undrilled tank? I was planning on have a drain pipe at about the half way mark for my monthly 50% water changes!
