Hi, having recently set up my fish room, it is 20ft x 19ft an it currently seems to be struggling to keep a constant temp within the tanks. I am using quite a few heaters when it's colder, an then not quite as many when warm obviously.

However, I've come across these dual Air conditioner/Heaters that seem to be able to keep the room at a constant temp, which would hopefully mean I can just get rid of the tank heaters completely. My question is, has anyone had any previous with these? Or know if they work?

The current ones I am looking at are;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12000-BTU...455622?hash=item3d1fcbcf46:g:josAAOxycmBSqvAd

Or something similar I guess if anyone has any suggestions?

Hmmmm... Not sure how well these portable units would work, since i dont think are intended for extended use (i.e 24/7)

Also, depending on the size of the room it may not help circulate the air evenly...

Last but not least, it also takes a while for tank temps to drop / raise up to ambient room temps, so might be something to consider?

Yeah along the same lines I was thinking. I was told of one that could be fitted for around £500, that wasn't really the same as these, but you just set it to the temp you wanted the room and it always stayed at that. However I just can't find it now.

The room is 20ft x 19ft. Its an unnatatched Garage though, I have had it all insulated

I mean honestly it could possibly work? Just thought i would point out potential problems you may find with such a unit thats all :)

Your tank should be fine with room temperature, I knew your tank water temp not stay constant but it won't drop instantly or rise instantly. I don't have any heaters in all my tank even saltwater tank and this time of years my tank temp rise up during day time and lower in night time but it won't be rise from 80 to 88F in matter of minutes, it would take hours to rise up and hours to cool down at night time.
Notes:
I got 40B and 150G saltwater tank unheated, without chiller and all live stock doesn't mind at all. Unless you're keeping extremely low temp species and required temp stay below 60F at all time!

The portable units are fine. While I do not know this brand I had to use one to keep the commom areas of my house bareable a year ago when my furnace and AC both died. It handled my kitchen living room and bathroom with the aid of a few fans to distribute the air.

However understand heat pumps will struggle with anything under 40 degrees. When I replaced my system i had a heat pump and furnace installed instead of just ac so I can go dual fuel if gas prices sky rocket again . Anything under 40 it couldnt keep up.

I think the that as Binge mentioned, if you get a unit sized correctly for the space you're working with, might even want to oversize it since you will want the temp to be kept pretty steady, and install fans for good air circulation, you should be fine. If it's a detached garage, is there any chance you can install two or three ceiling fans in it?

Thanks for the reply's guys. I doubt I could install ceiling fans as it's a ceiling I put in myself. I can easily put some around on timers though
