Nah,

Just was gonna ask the masses if i was missing anything or if anyone had ideas...

Room is behind my 625g -

92”x44” -

Plan - 3 Layers of Racking for 6 tanks
2 - 75g / 4 - 40g

bottom layer? probably store all fish hoses n things... love to slide a rubbermaid 100g under there ?

Questions:

what are folks treating their plywood with to resist against mold? is it necessary? my tank builder guy put some sort of varnish i think on the underside of my tank plywood...

this will not be a “show” area... only holding tanks, sick fish, fry, extra homeless fish, grow out eat. so does not need to be too nice...

i’m a little tight on the 75g side - i only had 21” (power panel ) my frame sucked up 1.5” leaving me 19.5... enough for 75g but not really for HOB’s

am i missing anything?

ideas?

if i could fit it in a 3’x3’x18” would be sweet! but i’m not paying a G....

i already have 3 - 75’s and 2- 40’s -

thanks all!

If you paint the wood it will help protect it. Or if you'd rather you could stain and varnish it. Or just poly coat it. Any of those would work.

You can also buy some scrap or cut offs of vinyl flooring to lay on the plywood and just paint the plywood edges and 2x lumber.

Definitely paint the underside of the plywood that will be above any aquariums, preferably a light color so it will reflect more light from any fixtures you install. I just used a good quality latex wall paint on any surfaces that were painted, at least 2 coats.

I also suggest some type of clear plastic or vinyl sheeting to protect that electrical panel since it's so close to the tanks.

Remove the door and store it somewhere for the future. You will want daily access to the space and you may want to consider installing a small fan in the closet to help with moisture, just have it blowing out of the closet.

If you will be using heaters, cut slots in the plywood that will allow passage of the plug ends of any cords so you won't be tripping over cords in front of the tanks.

Will you be running air operated sponge filters? If so, mount the air pump on a shelf above the top tanks somewhere so you will have easy access to it.

That's all I got for now!

that’s helpful, thanks all!

good idea about removing the door... i can definitely leave it open...

i put outlets on each level...

had not thought about the panel....

light color makes sense!

the vinyl planks are a nice idea! think i even have some here!

thanks for feedback!

You will absolutely need to do something about the humidity. I was running just a 75, 55, and a 29 in a bedroom bigger than this and over several months the humidity being in the upper 80% range caused me to get upper respiratory bronchitis. I strongly recommend a dehumidifier.

I actually used vinyl remnants and not the vinyl planking but I don't see why it wouldn't work. Another option is utility vinyl sheeting found at a fabric or craft store but a bit pricey, it comes on a roll.

Humidity can be a factor if you don't keep snug fitting lids on tanks or sumps AND don't have adequate ventilation or air circulation in a room. I have 20 tanks in a 10 x 12 room and no issues with humidity because the tanks are well covered, the room is supplied by heating/cooling ducts, and I leave the door open year round.

20 tanks! you must be retired! i thought i was working here! pics anywhere?

the room backs up to the garage. i’ll most likely vent it out there.

this stain/varnish mixture i have is messy! Had two cans intended for exterior eve area under roof... on my list has not gotten done...

i taped most of it of.... didn’t matter... sadly going to have to repaint the room...

at least i got nuthin but time ?...

waiting for that 1$ per gallon sale ?
