Over the next few months I will be putting all my tanks into one room in the basement, actually the whole basement. These will be setup being covered by walls with access behind the tanks.

Can anyone give me some ideas on the best way to setup a main filter system on this. The tanks will consist of the following.

1) 125
1) 90
2) 65
4) 55
4) 29

I currently run these tanks with various HOB's and canisters but would really like to go with a main filter for most of them one they are put in place in the new room.

Thanks!

Check some of your lfs (perferrably the mom & pop kind) ask if they will show you their setups...

A large W/D for 700g of tanks, a dependable 3500gph pump (5x turnover) (and something for backup), a large UV sterilizer and a mid-sized refugium if you like.

Naturally, everything has to be physically higher than the W/D for siphon/drainage.

Or you can do it alot easier, and order sponge filters they are 4$ a filter and you can get a 60$ air pump and run 20+ sponge filters on it.

I think you need a central system.
The filter is the easy part-the plumbing is a bit more difficult (Getting the pvc lines to and from the tanks back to the filter). This will require some planning.

Your tanks glass?

Are they drilled with overflows?

If not, you better learn how to make PVC overflows, which can be tricky and I don't even know if they will work with a central system. Also might look at overflow boxes, which can get really expensive for that many tanks.

you could go with a pool filter i've seen this for multiple tanks

This won't give any bio-filtration and are high pressure systems.

On a small set-up like this it may suck the scales of the fish...:D

They will work with almost any system, just make sure to have anti-siphon holes in place.

Like Brookynella said do all your planning first, so keep your HOB's wtill the system has been up and running for several months.

Here's the deal. A good friend of mine passed away last spring. He owned a lfs about 250 miles from where I live. During the illness that took his life he had to close his store. His wife recently contacted me and asked if I wanted to come up there and go through everything they stored in a wharehouse. She said everything is still there that was in the store and I'm welcome to whatever I want. She said some of the tanks were sold off but the filter system and all the fixtures and everthing else is still there. All I have to do is go get it.

I don't recall his main filter setup but it ran several large tanks. His smaller tanks were on another system. She has offered this to me at no charge. I couldn't live with myself taking it for free so once I make it up there and see exactly what I'm dealing with I will buy what I want and sell off the rest for her as I'm sure the storage bill isn't cheap..

Anyway, back to the topic here. As I said I don't really recall how this main filter was all setup so I'm sure it will be a mess to figure it all out. So I would like to use what I can from his stuff. I know he ran alot more tanks with it than I'm going to. I will try to make it up there sometime in the next month. I'll post more on this with what I end up getting and maybe some of the plumbing\filtration Pros here can help me figure it all out.

I got a feeling my wallet is going to get pretty light on this deal. He had alot of nice stuff.

Sorry for your loss, it was good of her to think of you and you idea of helping her out is honorable. Your putting the equipment to good use will be a tribute.

When the time comes anything we can do to help with your set-up let us know.

Take LOTS of pix
