Hey guys I was wondering if any of you have cared for peoples aquariums and fish as a paid service? I am 15 years old and there aren't many jobs around for my age group. I thought that since i know a lot about fish and aquarium keeping that i would offer my services for a price on craigslist. I currently know NOTHING about liability issues, pricing, or anything to do with taking care of other peoples animals. Help if you can! :]

PS: Admins, I didn't really know where to post this. Please move if you think it is necessary.

theres lots of this in my area.. mostly for saltwater and such.. but even at my office theres a 75 that someone comes in and takes care of twice a week (i work in the field but ive offered to deal with it)...
theres a few companies that do this but mostly its individuals.. the few people that ive talked to are fully insured to cover themselves and possiable damage done while cleaning ect.
liability insurance would be a MUST.. not just to keep yourself covered but theres no way i would let anyone into my home/business to do work if they were not insured...
as for pricing.. i see adds on clist that start at like $50 a tank.. my guess is that thats the "ill show up for $50 and anything i do is going to cost you extra" sorta thing though...

thats all i know.. hopefully someone will chime in with some more info.. good luck

well you just better know what your doing because if a fish dies under your care, guess who will get the blame

Theres a ton of these services around here, but its usually adults with cars and a ton of equipment and such. it depends what u mean by care too...if its just feed while ur away fine go nuts! but will u clean a tank? water changes? ....i gets tougher for those things as even the most experienced fish keeper can goof and have issues with there fish.

You're gonna need a car. Best advice is talk to companies that currently do this in your area. Maybe they need another employee. Hassle to start is as a business at 15. Lots of issues... not to mention people letting some "random" 15 yearold into their area of work or their homes. I used to to home/office tank care, but that was a service that the lfs that I worked for offered.
