This is a thread inspired by S Supergeorge123 on aquarium size guide. I wanted to make a fish size guide. What are your opinions on my fish size guide?

micro = .5 to 1 inch
nano = 1 to 3 inches

small = 3 to 5 inches
Average = 5 to 7 inches
Above average = 7 to 12 inches
Large = 12 to 17 inches
XL = 17 to 22 inches
Giant = 22 to 27 inches
Monster 27+ inches

I personally think it's pretty good.

Sizes are relative. What about a 12" ropefish vs a 12" oscar? The mass just doesn't add up.
agreed, I've had numerous conversations with people where I tell them there's a big difference between a fish like an eel or something like that where it's long, thin, and doesn't take up much space vs a fish of the same (or even smaller) length that's big and beefy. I would say the size depends on the fish itself, but I do agree with that guide for the most part

Reefer and Hendre brought up good points and I'd like to add onto what they said.

Instead of going off of length wouldn't it be more accurate to go based off of length, shape, and weight? As Hendre said, a 12 inch rope fish and 12 inch Oscar are not the same and in my opinion should not be lumped together. If you take the length, shape, and weight of a particular fish and do some math with the given numbers (not sure what exactly you would do) then you would end up with a ratio of length to weight for a particular shape. Going off of that ratio along with a few other factors such as activity levels I believe that you could find a rough estimate for tank size.

Thoughts on it?

why not sort by tank requirements?
