i am not sure what to do in terms of feeding whilst im away. i have someone that is coming to feed the cats that can feed the fish. but now a pair has spawned im considering not feeding them at all for the 2 weeks. i have fed a lot recently to fatten them all up whilst i'm away so am sure they wont starve, but am concerned they will try eating eachother.

so i have a few q's....
1. would a 2 week fast have any benefits?
2. or would there be more consequences?
3. should i leave the eggs in the community tank with the parents?
4. if u think i should get the cat-sitter to feed the fish, how often do u recommend they be fed?

the fish concerned are in my signature

i appreciate any good advice

Little fish in a planted tank can pick and investigate between the plants all day. Big fish in a fairly sparse tank have only what you feed them to eat. The cat sitter can feed your fish to keep them alive but does not need to feed them so much that they grow and also overload the filters with overfeeding. They all look nice & healthy in your video. I would recommend that they be fed every two days in the morning & either you leave detailed notes as to how much to select out of each food container or put food into a series of small containers with an instruction to feed one container per feeding.

Thanks for the suggestions. i think I will probably just have them fed every other days, because like you say i do not want to overload the filter, and they will be less likely to eat each other due to hunger.
Any ideas on what to do with the eggs, leave them in the tank? What will they eat after their egg sacks have depleted, will they be able to scavenge food already in the tank?

Fry probably wont make it

what about if i put the rock with the eggs on in another empty tank. It is very small though, only about 3gallon. Or could put them in another larger container (25 gallon).

im not sure how to care for fry so any advice is appreciated

if any1 is interested..

i bought a diamond drill bit, cheap, drilled a hole in a spare tank and connected the small tank which is now housing the eggs on a large rock, to the main tank, via a pump and overflow.

i will have the fish in the main tank fed every other day, and the fry fed with crushed pellets daily.

This way at least the fry tank will be well filtered at they will have a chance at growing without becoming dinner for the other tank-mates.

Hopefully when I get back in two weeks there will still be a few fry, and i'll update whatever outcome when I return :naughty:

been about a month since the eggs were laid, when I got back there were a few hundred, now there are 50-100 at around 2cm; looking like proper little fish now, and showing some serious aggression at feeding times; like their parents (male jag, female dovii). check the fry out on my youtube link in my sig.
