I have a bunch of loaches, plecos, a raphael cat, and a polypterus in my 30 gallon tank. I put in a new decoration just last night, and today when I was taking some pictures, I noticed my 4 biggest loaches and the raphael were missing. I looked under everything in there and then realized there is a hole in the decor big enough for them to fit in. So I took a flashlight and shined it into the decor and all I could see was a tail of one of the loaches.

I am worried they are all stuck in there since it isnt a very large area. How can I get them out? Even if they aren't stuck, I want to get them out and take the decor out so they dont stay in there all the time.

Here is a pic of the decor I'm talking about.

I had a very similar decor and Im willing to bet that they are fine. However if you don't want them in there and you want to remove the loaches like I did what you can do is lift the decoration just out of the water. Your loaches will want out I promise. Just be careful and make sure that they are not out of water for to long. I would even put the wood piece back in the water so that they could breath and eventually they all came out.

Thanks. I put some of the water in a bucket and put the decor in that. Two swam out. I saw the biggest one, but not sure if he can get out or not. There is another one in there also along with the catfish. I saw the catfish and he came right to the edge of the hoel, but if I lift it out of the water, he just stays in it so I don;t kno how to get him out.

Turn it upside down over the tank and give it a couple of good shakes then when they are out either fill the opening with sand or tank it out.BTW when bigger the poly will most likely dine on the loaches-Anne

No worries...the poly is smaller than the loaches right now and the 30 is one of our smallest tanks...An upgrade will happen when he gets a little bigger and won't be eaten by the other fish.

Still no such luck getting the other two loaches and the raphael. Glad to see they are all alive (aside from the smallest loach in there, but I assume he's alrigh too) I'm keeping an eye out for when one swims out so i can put him back in the tank, but these last guys have proven difficult.

Ok, I shook the loaches out and they seem fine. I still cant get that catfish. He is right at the opening but sucks to the side and I can only fit one finger in the hole. I never see this fish to begin with as he hides wherever he can and never comes out so I dont know how to get him to come out.

It's a spotted raphael catfish. He only eats at night time and we never see him come out. We of course assume hes eating at night since he's growing and we've had him a lnog time now. I don;t know....he just doesnt seem to want to come out. Maybe if I keep it dark and put a cocohut in for him, he will coem out from the wood and go under the cocohut. They were his favorite hiding place before this thing.
