Hey guys. I have recently constructed a 55 gallon paludarium (seen here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?534287-Eyelash-Viper-Paludarium) and added a few "test subjects" if you will to make sure that the construction materials used are completely safe. I threw some wild gambusia in there and they are still alive and well but after observing them for a while I think the current is stronger than expected.

This brings me to my question. I am looking for a small fish that can live in ~7 gallons of space and can tolerate a steady current and basic conditions. It should also be noted that this enclosure will be housing venomous snakes so low maintenance is a huge plus. I would like some small shrimp and fish but don't know what would fit these conditions. Do you guys have any suggestions or can you point me in the right direction so that I can research this more?

Thanks.

Well, if you don't mind staying simple and native, you could always just do some minnows.
Unless you're looking for bright obnoxious color in there.

A school of minnows would compliment the look of the tank, they won't outgrow it, they're hardy, and they're constantly on the move. They even have some personality to them and are pretty fun to feed.
I have a school of about 200 in my goldfish pond.

Otherwise, if color is the goal, keep it simple and just do guppies, mollies, platies, and things of that nature.

Also, have you considered aquatic inverts or frogs? That would be pretty sweet in the set up, assuming the reptiles don't eat them

I don't mind simple at all but what kind of minnows are you talking about. There are gambusia in there now but considering that they like still water I think they are stressed from the current.

Like I mentioned before I would like some shrimp to go in there but frogs are certainly a no go since they would be eaten.

you could try some killifish (mosquito fish)

I have a mosquito fish in there already (Gambusia holbrooki) and it is not doing well because the current is too strong.

Shiners you can get from a bait store like currents. Mine stay almost in front of my filter output. Btw I'm using an fx5 lol
