So I've already had to cut my 14-15" rope out of the end of my python once (not fun). So now, I didn't see him yesterday afternoon, no big deal, he hides all the time. Today, I'm checking out the tank and realize someone had knocked the extension tube off one of my canisters, and there's a wide open tube headed straight for the filter. I automatically freak. Pulled the canister, and POOF....there could have been a green cloud to accompany the smell. Pulled the canister apart and just pitched all the media, as it was so rank I wasn't even going to try. But he wasn't there. He was stuck in the tube just before entering the filter, swollen. Long story short, I threw away all my tubing and media, and had a nasty afternoon of teardown, waterchanges, and cleaning. My poor rope!!!

Yeah that sucks. My worst suicide experience was my redline snakeheads, about 1993. I had a couple and they both jumped out while I was at school. THere was only 1 little hole and they found it. I know your pain.

man that sucks.... not just the loss, but also the cleanup.

I actually made it easier than it could have been by just throwing a lot of it away. I always feel really bad and at fault when I lose a fish, like I should have noticed the tube sooner. But that would have just been luck to find.

That does suck. I gave up on the escape atrist fish, after finding a Blue Ribben eel stuck to my carpet, and a Snowflake eel in the food goldfish feeder tank underneath.

I am sorry for your loss. :( I think we all get that sense of guilt even though there was nothing we could really do.

Thanks all. Yeah, there is that guilt since we take them in and are responsible for them. You just expect them to fully live out their lives happily. That's life though.

ya i lot a clown loach of all things when it jumped it was a temp tank and had no lid.

I bought a small senegal bichir, and during the night it jumped into my overflow, and took a swim down the tube to the sump. There was a sponge at the end of the tube, and it died. That sucked.
