So my firemouth cicchids and serpae tetras recently wasted away after not eating for like 2 maybe 3 weeks. I feel awfull! They were doing so well in the beginning I don't know what happened. The only survivor was my bristlenose pleco who is indestructbale. She is alone in my 29 right now. So... Im guessing they died by some sort of parisite or something but I have no idea. The bristlenose is fine though.

Anyway, Im pondering what to do next. Im currently looking at flier cichlids again which is what I was originally going to stock the tank with. I also like sajicas. Then I saw some of Jeff Raps firemouths. They are amazing! But im a little fearful of getting them again. What would be best for a 29? I might upgrade to a 40 but that's questionable.

Any ideas?

just try again with some quality firemouths, on a related note, why did they go so long without eating? did you diagnose the disease?

I have no idea. At first I thaught maybe I spooked them and they were just going to have to get used to me again. But then I noticed my serpaes stopped eating too which put me in panic mode. Suprisingly, the bristlenose is doing just fine. She's always been tough though. Okay I think I will try Jeff Rapps firemouths. I've heard good things about his fish. They were all(but the bristlense) from petco. Could that have something to do with it?

you need to look at your pleco and see if you can see his poo before getting anymore fish, what you described sounds ALOT like internal parasites and if the pleco has it then any new fish no matter where you get them from will get them as well, if his poo is white/clear/stringy then you need to treat the tank with jungle parasite clear before you get any new fish GOOD LUCK

+1 :iagree:test your water and tell us what your ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are, you really should find out what went wrong before getting more fish or it may just happen all over again

The plecos poop is brown just like always. I did test the water but i forgot what it read. I will test it again and get back to you guys. But I will bett money it was some sort of internal parasite that killed them.

Okay so the amonia and nitrite was 0 and the nitrate was at like 5ppm. Normal parameters for my tank.
