i was wondering if cichlids like dim lights better than brights. When i put my 2 reg lights on the fish dont play as much as when i put my coralife fixture with 2 blue bulbs on my tank. With the dimmer light on they swim around all happy
What u think??

will i have 1 side of my 55 that has no light and my cichlids say on that side i know thats no a answer your question but thats my exp.

my aquarium is brightly lighted but it doesnt stop the chichlids from playing i think you might have a species which like to stay in dim lighted areas.

Actually that's normal if they are not used to bright lighting they will all scatter to the non lighted side of the tank. for evening purposes, I use hagen micro led lighting which supplies a smaller span of lighting less shocking to the fish when it comes on.

My fish always have had bright lights, but i got a coralife fixture with blue light and they seem to play more with the blue lights my fish are never scared tho they come right up the the corner to me. But u see ppl one youtube with dimish lights and there fish are up swiming around and hiper

I've never known Rift Lake Cichlids to be skitish by light intensity - dim or bright. I would imagine tho that if the intesity was so bright it was throwing off heat the fish would retreat to the bottom of the tank.
