have a fresh water 6'x2'x2' and was wondering whats the best lighting for that would also like a blue/purple night light type deal built in

as i said im one of my posts im not to good with reef lighting but i can help with freshwater

some people with large planted set ups use halides but i highly dont recommend them they generate far to much heat and generally promote alga growth not a good idea

i would personally use a 2x2 shop light fixtures with 3ft flourecent tubes then you could have 2 on each side lighting both sides of the aquarium equally

the reason i would use this is because its a very cheap and affective option

or you could use t5s their a bit more expensive but do give out a nice light tone and if you wire your own fixtures into a lid its really very cheap :D

for the moon lighting i would use 4 cold cathod tubes like these ones

rig all for up and evenly space them and it will give a nice bright moon lighting blue

or use some cold blue led strips like these ones

hope this helps :)

If you're not growing live plants, I'd go LED. The savings in electricity and bulbs is big, and they look great. Marineland makes affordable LED fixtures that have the built in lunar lights too. Otherwise, I'd just do something like a basic T5.

Thanks really like the 2x2x idea and do the cold cathod give off uv? They look like they do

i use cold cathods in quite a few of my aquariums as their very bright and give off a stunning moon lighting effect i think they do give off a small amount of uv :D
