So here's a fun one. I just reached over and shut of the 36" light on my 46g tank and it just started flashing, in regular intervals. I'm not a big fan of that. I suppose its because I don't have a lid on the tank, so water gets up inside of it probably from the splashing of the bubbles popping.

Do you think the light is shot? It did happen maybe a week ago so I took it off the tank and let it dry worked fine for a couple more days.

I am going to pick up a lid tomorrow from the hardware store. FYI they're cutting it to shape for me, and I'm getting charged 2.50 a sq. foot. Roughly $10. My choice of glass or fiberglass. It costs 40-50 for a lid for this particular tank retail. I WIN.
 
Jiggle the bulb, the connection between the bulb and light socket might be loose or there may be debris in it. Another possibility is that you may have to change the ballast.
