If it's calcium carbonate, it won't be inert. You'll want to decide if changing your water chemistry is something desirable.

Some people do use calcium carbonate in their tanks, so that in itself will not be a problem, but again the chemical changes might not be exactly what you want. For some reason I'd expect you'll get some visible residue in your tank, but I can't say that for sure.

As to whether or not it will be cloudy, that may depend on the size of the sand. I'm not aware of how it handles being in a tank with water flow and water changes.
