I thought this was interesting to read after seeing only my Catfish and Pleco go for beef heart. Although none of the other fish care for it, they tear it up. Along with that, one of my Severums absolutely loves freeze dried shrimp and eats them whole before other fish even know they were in the tank. I'm starting to think that fish may have preferences for different foods (ones that are in their normal diet, i.e. different brands of flakes, pellets, shrimp, and different types/brands of meats).

my midevil will not touch brine shrimp. he won't even put it in his mouth and spit it out. it just floats around him. oh but mysis shrimp... he goes nuts.
and a friend of mine had an oscar that would seemingly get bored of food. if he fed oscar his pellets consecutively for too long, oscar would stop eating them but would welcome frozen stuff. and vice versa.
fish are so cool.

I definitely think some fish have preferences for food. In the aquarium and from fishing; certain bait fish seem irresistible, while others are left untouched. Granted if fish are hungry enough. they seem eat the less desirable prey items

I didn't even think of fishing but that makes sense. I remember being a kid and having "cat fish bait." Not for the other fish, just the catfish.

No experiences like this with my tinfoil barbs. They eat EVERYTHING, and just for good measure they then go and eat each others crap! Minging, haha.

My goldfish all like different plants. Mia, Seafood Extender and Poached love ambulia (sp?) Bitsa, Fillet and Munt love wisteria (sp?) Goog and Finn Lee like hairgrass, and Crumbed likes lillopsis (sp?). If I chuck a handful off assorted plant matter in the tank, they all go to their favorite plant. :)

While they'll all eat just about anything that lands in the tank (literally, Mia once ate a house spider that fell in when I opened the hood!), they all have their preferences. :)

I have some fish that prefer pellets over tilapia and others that prefer certain types of pellets primadona's !

Lake near me has small cats and sunfish. Only way to catch a catfish in this lake is by using raw dough

My aro goes through phases ,liking thawed fish, or prawns, two weeks later she will not touch it for days or even weeks on end, she never refuses crickets or super worms and carnisticks.
Fw anglers fishing for carp and catfish swear by their (often secret) recipes and use all manner of colorants, flavours, herbs and spices, and they seem successful, so who knows?
Imo fish have well developed taste buds, and will reject food that they don't like.

I've also noticed casting artificial lures with a taster(like a piece squid or other) the fish definitely hold on a lot more....
