Hi guys,

I'm interested in the types of fish that require more nurturing to bring out its full display potential. Fish such as Arowana, Oscar too i believe are some of the fish i know that can grow to be amazing if they are taken care of properly and with a good diet.

Anyone know of any other fish species that are in this category?

Pretty much every living creature, past and present, will show better coloration and grow better given proper nutrition. Humans included.

Seriously, what kind of question is that?

if you look at arowanas, there's those that are very dull in color, and those that are extremely bright... whereas all guppies are almost equally colorful given the same type.

a wolf fish's color is genetically dull.... if you give him the right environment and treatment, it will grow healthy but it's different than those fish with special color pigments on their scales... those like oscar, arowana.

I would say most fish will grow to be great specimens depending on their diet. ive found red orange colored fish Such as midas, red devils , blood parrots, ect benefit greatly as they grow from what diets that have such as krill, blood worms, shrimp ect. while ive seen the green, spangled, blue fish like green terrors, jack dempseys, texas, severums, ect benefit from algae and natural plant based food in there diets. kelp, spirulina, and natural algae makes those colors unbelievable. while genetics will also play a part i fish coloration in such fish like flowerhorns, and wild caught versus line bred you will still be best to provide your fish with a good varied diet for colors to develop. you can see threads of fish raised on quality food vs low quality brands without the ingredients mentioned above.

Discus' color is highly effected by water quality and diet. Rummy nose tetras, too.
