HI, i have a question, not long after i got my first two fish, the water was safe i use organic water cleaner. One of the fish died a few days later, i had noticed it was not acting like itself, stayed at the bottom, didn't swim much it eventually died during the night, i am just curious do you guys know why it could have died?
Cheers

Howdy, and welcome to MFK,

Did you set up the tank new? If so, it was probably not completely cycled, and toxic waste products (nitrite, ammonia) accumulated to a lethal level.

Did you measure any water parameters?

Thing is i bought two fish, and only one survived, the one that survived was big, so my guess was that it ate more food then the other one, and the other one died of starvation, because the organic water thing, needed only 30 mins to make the water safe for fish, and i left it an hour before introducing the fish to the water. Could it have died from a illness?

even though you used the organic water cleaner you still have to Cycle your tank. There are many great threads that will walk you throught the explination. Search "cycling", and welcome to MFK.

Also, what type of fish did you buy? Some times you just buy a weak fish that is on its way out.
It could also have been from shock if you just threw them in to your tank without aclamating.

Either way welcome to MFK and you can find answers to all of the above here.

I agree with above. And this is not even remotely meant as insult but it sounds like you a lot to learn and this is a great place to do it. Welcome to the site:)

I dont think your listening. Your "organic cleanser" would only remove the chlorine and other "junk" from your tap water. They are simply stating that you must cycle your tank before adding your fish. Cycling is when the beneficial bacteria build up that convert your fish's waste into nitrate. Ammonia and Nitrite (fish's waste) are lethal is even the smallest ammounts. But nitrate can be tolerated to a certain point in which case water changes are needed. You need to realize we are trying to help you not insult you. Also do you have a heater what was the temperature? And how long has the tank been set up?

one thing my last reply i just stated the name of the organic water cleanser, and that i had left the bag with the fish in the water for more then 30mins. I know you guys are not trying to insult me. I just stated the name of it so you guys would know it's name.

Then please answer the following

Tank water temperature?
How long has the tank been set up?
Do you have a test kit?

It might have been the following that killed it:
The fish have to be acclimated to the water in your tank. Putting the bag in for 3o min was the right thing to do. Then you have to start putting in small amounts of water from your tank into the bag. once the bag starts to fill up too much then dump it out so you only have a small amount of water left and start filling it up again. (this is too be done very slowly over the period of at least and hour or two)
If your just toss the fish from the store bag to the tank water they can go into shock and die.

MFK is the perfect place to learn all of this so feel free to ask anything.
