Doing a Christmas fish swap with my best friend, except I'm flying to where he is, and planning on bringing a pair of wild trichopodus trichopterus. I'm aware the TSA technically allows fish in carry on, but there's a little warning on the site that says "final decision is up to the TSA officer", so that kinda concerns me. What's everyone's experience with the TSA and fish?

No personal experience myself but they're pretty restrictive on carry on liquids. How long is that flight?

I can't find the story now. But what had happened was a young woman was going home for summer or spring break something of that nature and she tried to bring her Betta with her. The airline refused to allow the Betta on the plane. So a person that works at the airport kept it for her there at the airport till she returned to college and picked up the Betta.
So if it was me I would definitely call ahead and make sure that they will allow it for sure before making any plans on taking them.

I read up on that one, there were two problems with that, one was that it was southwest that didn't let her through (TSA did), and then southwest didn't let her through because she was trying to bring her fish in one of those big critter keepers
Since the actual airline itself doesn't check your carry on bags, I think if she'd just bagged her fish and kept it in her bag she would've been fine
I'm more concerned about the TSA part but so far hear good things about it

Should be like a 2 hour flight, TSA fish logic is allegedly that the liquid is probably safe if there's a live fish swimming in it, so they're less restrictive on amount of liquid, but again I am more concerned about people's experiences with the TSA since it's up to the officers themselves
But even then I don't even bag with enough water to fill a waterbottle
