I'm looking for an attractive or very active bottom dweller to go with my datnoids in my 35 gallon tank still.
I've considered loaches, but they grow far to slow and I wouldn't want them to get eaten.

Could Cory Cats work? Or are they too small? I wouldn't want one of the dats eating them and choking on the spine.

So I'm looking for something that is fairly nice looking, will move around a bit and wont get taken down by the dats.

Any suggestions?
Thanks :)

I've also been considering some larger tetra species for extra movement, but the dats would probably try to eat them, same with tiger barbs Im thinking.

Has anyone kept Angels with dats?
I was thinking maybe one large Altum or two, what about discus?

i wouldnt keep angles or discus with dats. CL would work but dats grow extremely slow too. also while a 35g might last a while, i hope its not a long term solution for them.

i keep my dats with cichlids and they do fine. my silver dat and brasiliensis do some chasing but nothing serious.

i had giant danios for a long time and they did good in the tank

35G is just a growout, once they reach about 9'' I'll move them into a 4'x2'

The giant danios seem like a good idea, max size of 6'' and I know both of my LFS carry them so I might pick up a trio.

The biggest loaches I can get locally are about 2'', and I dont want to risk it.

i have been using butterfly plecos with my dats...no problems at all...the dats dont mind them at all. i even have a tiny 2-inch albino bristlenose pleco with 3 large 8-inch dats and no problems there either

but for aesthetics i would go for clown loaches..i have 5 3-inch cl's with my community of it's ranging from 3 inches to 8 inches, and they have been ok

Bichers or raphael cats. Clown loaches do well also. My dats never tried to eat mine but just make sure they have a cave of some sort
Since the dats are 3-4'' what size would the bichirs need to be?
I wouldnt mind a nice senegal or maybe a delhezi but I dont know what size to get it to be safe with the dats.

wat about frontosas and other various cichlids?
I like frontosas, but most frontosa near me arent quality and I dont feel like having fish shipped.
I have thought about some cichlids species, such as sajica, maybe blue rams.

my dats never bothered any smaller fish, beside zebra danio which became food to someone in my tank.

my 3-4" dats leave my 2" giant danio alone and my 2" clown pleco
