This is my first excursion into the monster tank world, and the first problem to be solved is how the heck are you catching fish!!!? It is virtually impossible to catch a bastard nyereri in mine without tearing it down. Currently trying to coax him into my filter, but going to need something better in the future.

I know you guys have some great traps you are using, let's see 'em!

XL fishing net. I've never had to catch a fish in my 500g but I'm careful not to put anything in there I don't plan on keeping forever because I don't want to have to catch them. Also almost bought a 30" aro at the Lfs I was gonna get it half price if I stripped down and got into their 1500g display tank during business hrs and caught him in a towel lol.

big nets will work in open water, but with a bit of rock work....becomes useless! Was eye-balling my sons minnow trap....! Wondering about some version of it using less harsh materials. Or perhaps a special made "rock" cave that stays in the tank all the time just for trapping.

Back when I was pond breeding Koi, I built a 8' long pvc frame covered in seine material that was designed to set in the water so they would get used to it and all I had to do was tip it back to get a net full. Regularly caught 250 2" babies at a time.

Did you ever catch him? I know that when I want to get a specific fish in mine I have to remove all the rockwork and then chase them all over the place with my largest net. I've seen some people catch exactly what they want with no issue, but I'm not one of them.

Inglorious, yep...outsmarted him! The way my filter is designed, there is a 2" passive intake near the surface that normally is either closed or has a diffuser on it. I opened it up, but another nyereri in a bag inside to lure him in and waited. Only took an hour and sure enough he swam in! Sucker...!
