OK
Well i have decided that i (an a year or two) am going to go on a short holiday for around 2 weeks.
I thought, hey if i can incorporate fish into this holiday that would be sweet! so then
I started thingking about going to Honk Kong or Singapore because of their UNLIMITED supplies of way awesome fish and LFS.
BUT the thing is, are Singapore and Hong Kong expensive places to visit? I mean i was thinking about Blai too but then again bali doesnt have many fish stores etc.
hmmm, and if i was going to go to singapore or hong kong and spend lots of money i might as well go to the amazon. And Hong Kong and singapore are not very far trips either, so close to Australia.
I dont know where to go!

If anyone has any cool suggestions/experiences please spill!
thanks!

Well I have been to Malaysia a few times and will be heading to Singapore and Malaysia again in a couple of months :woot:

Not having been to Singapore just yet I cant give much info there but if your after cheap then you cant beat Malaysia! I can pretty much fly to Malaysia and live there for a month cheaper than I can live here for a month - including the airfare! Plus the food rocks! I cant get enough of it! Oh but booze is expensive being a primarily Muslim country, they dont drink a lot of alcohol and its taxed heavily. But if you smoke, they virtually give ciggies away! A couple of dollars a pack or something if I remember correctly

Unfortunately I was not as into fish the last time I was in Malaysia so havent really visited many fishy places, but plan on visiting some Arowana farms when I am over there next

I did visit a wildlide park when I was there a couple of years ago and they had a couple of big Arapaima's there in a pond but I cant recall where it was?

From Melbourne a flight to Kuala Lumpur takes about 7-8hrs and they are in the same timezone as Perth I think ;)

Let me know if you want to know anything.

Yeah cool, malasia would be sweet, thats one of the places i wanted to go (singapore). So you had fun?
I didnt know how much it would cost to live over there, i thought it might have been expensive but wasnt too sure.
And yeah the food! mmmmm, cant get enough of it lol, but it'll give you the runs haha.
Im only 18 now so this will be my first overeas holiday without family. Where did you stay etc? Was the accomodation good? Im in Adelaide, and found that if i was going to travel in feb for a return flight it would be about $980. Thats for the flight only, so i have to work out accomodation.

But yeah cheers for the reply from a fellow aussie too, nice
Thanks again, btw i dont smoke :( oh well, maybe ill buy some packs and sell them when i get back haha.

I am not sure but my best buddie goes to Hong Kong alot and absolutely loves it they go at least 4 times a year! She always brings back tons of stuff and tells me how cheap it is there! She brought back some pictures it looks like a fun place to visit....

My dad just went to tailand for 25 days ,my uncle have a home there so they just spend about 1000$ whith plain and food,
we left on 4 of december and return this sunday .
didnt get my Monsters fish keppers book :swear:
didnt find

hey capo..it really depends on wad u looking at..if u intend to visit msia/singapore..then might as well go to both! from kuala lumpur (capital of Msia) to Singapore is a short bus ride of 5 hours at less than SGD$30! of cos if u have cash, u can take a flight too but i dun see much of a point unless u'r on business. In Singapore, we have lotsa fish shops/fish farms ard and of course you must visit Cichlids Forever which has in stock all sorts of oddballs! Oh, and i dun really think we'r THAT expensive. maybe more expensive than msia but not like Japan at all. :D

alternatively, HK and TW are nice places to visit too. Both are fantastic places for food like SG/Msia and they do have quite a few cool aquarium shops and stock a wide variety of fishes. I have been to both a few times and have brought back quite a number of fishes(mainly plecos). I can give u names/address of a few fish shops if u do decide to visit there. :)

Visit the MFK bros there!

OK cool, i think singapore will be the place!
There are a lot of MFKers on here from singapore right?
Lol, ummmm, its not illegal to bring fish from singapore to aus right? obviously unless its on our ban list.
hmmmm, yeah def singapore. Also (for the locals) are there places which i can access internet over there? like in libraries? I will want to keep everyone updated! and to see if i can get in touch with some of you MFKers while im there, lol, you can show me all the cool fish places :grinyes:
OK, now i just have to get things planned etc, save up some more money.
And one more thing, when is the time of year to travel there? like, weather wise/fish stock wise?

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing Singapore too!

Apparently a very neat and clean place, oh and chewing gum is illegal!

You cant bring any Aro's back in unfortunately, I'm not sure what other fish are allowable imports from Singapore to Australia?

Weather around the equator doesnt change much from season to season, it will be very hot and humid year round. Maybe a bit wetter at times?

So who on the forums are Singaporians?

i am singaporean :)
we've got no seasons..it's warm whole year round! near end of year is usually wetter :D
regarding bringing fish back, i think u'll need to check with the aussie authorities..from what i understand, Aust has very tight controls over flora and fauna dat can be brought into the country...check to be sure..u dun wanna spend hundreds and find that all will be confiscated by the customs..
with regards to fish stock..variety and quantity seems to be better from June till end of the year..but then again, fish is always available all year long, just diff times diff fish i suppose..
OH..and dun worry about internet, u can find it easily everywhere :)
