hey all, just wanted to start a conversation about asians personality, before i kept my current yellow tail most of you will know ive kept most monster fish in my 300 being the irresponsible guy i am. From my experience ive learnt that i love giant gourami but they are too mean, causing havoc an bullying tank mates relentlessly and ive been looking for fish to match up, i stumbled across my yellow tail asian aro 'yoyo' a month or so ago and a good price and he/she has really surprised me! ive kept a silver before from 10 to 16 inch and i found my particular fish pretty skittish and souless, the asian i have now is currently at 14-15 inch and is a right character rivalling that of a giant gourami, sorry usa mfk'ers but they are great!! he bangs the lid when hungry and bites at the glass as good as any big cichlid ive had, got him hand feeding now, he is hardly skittish at all... he even comes up to greet me at the glass!
well thats all i wanted to say, my personal opinion of asians before i owned one was that they are massively over priced and lifeless characterless less fish like the ones id seen stressed at lfs, like the silver i had, and in tanks on youtube, i may have just lucked out and got a good one or maybe most are like this i dont know!?

anyone else want to share there views on arowana personality?

I Actually fear for my fingers when i dangle the silversides in the water, he hits em very hard, prob gonna tag me sooner or later!-)

My old jardini was pretty tame he would swim through my hand , follow me around the room and handfeed but yes you have to watch your fingers lol there not that good a shot :D
Still working on the new jar he's still pretty scatty but we'll get there

The rtg my mate owns at LFS is really moody he sulks when they put new tank mates in and only eats mealworms or blue lobsters never touched pellets ,they've have to start breeding mealworms for him and they stink good job its in a shop not his house

so im guessing it luck of the draw whatever species then, glad i got a good one!-) mine eats anything, most of the golds and reds on youtube do seem very inactive... hows your jar feeding evz? must be putting on some size now?
 
Yer he's doing good mate yes been feeding on anything that hits the surface for a while now :D he's getting much thicker set now and has took over as boss now he's killed the rt , I always knew he would but never thought it would end in a death so quick without the initial scrapping and battering , he's about 12-13" now at a guesstimate ;) I need to update his thread soon too not posted pics for a while.
How big is your aro now mate ? He bossing BA around yet ? Update pics ? Lol :D

he is about 14inch dude, na ba the 13inch butti still owns him and no pics atm, came home 2 days ago and he has lost a scale and has some scrapes!? maybe he met the devil lol, no serious damage tho thank god, needs a few more inch to deter him, devil wont go near the butti, he is pretty intimidating and rounded at about 8 inch tall.
 
Scrapes and even scale loss is OK it happens , its eye damage I'm always paranoid about :eek:, BA is a seriously big thick set butti mate there's a big pair in my lfs someone brought back but no where near as big as him
