After the recent goldfish episode and finding out neoprod like goldfish, guppy likes danios and tetras it got me wondering. What kind of fish does everyone dislike? What kinds of fish are their favorites? We all like monster fish obviously but what fish don't we like...and why? I'll go first.
Livebearers
I generally don't like them for some reason. Wild caught ones are alright but things like the sunset platys and balloon mollys and colorful swordtails are not really something I would keep.
Tetras
I don't care for most tetras for some reason. Maybe it is due to lack of exposure being the only tetras I have ever had are my current Bunois Aires tetras (I love these guys). I do like some, such as the ones I have. I also like the blind cave fish and some of the larger tetra species. Tetras like the neons, hatchetfish, blackskirt and glolight are great to look at but I wouldn't keep them. This includes pirahnas. Highly overrated fish IMO.
Eels
Not really sure why, maybe it is because they hide under the sand all day...I have no desire to keep any of the various fish called "eels" sold at the LFS
Gouramis
Not really into any of them, I enjoy my betta but bettas were the fish fish I ever kept and I am not really even into them all that much. None of the gouramis impress me much...not even the giant gourami.
Datnoids
I don't see the big deal, I have no urge to own one...ever.
I am sure there are others but I cannot really think of them right now. The fish I like the most are cichlids (American mostly), catfish and native fish of NA. I have a great fondness for minnow species actually such as goldfish but more so the various native minnows. I love catching and trying to ID the various shiners, dace and other minnows. Funny because I don't really like tetras but they are very similer. I think it is perhaps I grew up with minnows in my back yard.
I would like to say that for the record, I don't hate these fish or even dislike them really, I just don't want to keep them and don't pay attension to them when other fish are around. Hateing a fish is a waste of time.
