I love planted tanks, Ive got 2 and am about to set up a third but my other tank has a foot long black shark and some tinfoil barbs in it. These guys are going to tear any plant to shreds, so what better tank mates than other plant destroyers right?
I'd like to know of any species that you wouldnt consider keeping with plants, I know silver dollars and big cichlids will rip them up, is there any others?

from my experience most aggressive fish are the worst because they like to move the substrate around, my shovelnose cat always moves nearly everything in my tank, not to mention eats almost everything too.. haha

Oscars. My Red O used to be OK with 'some' plants... but since I've added the Tiger O, he seems to have to show off and uproot everything, move everything, break anything he can, and so on. He still won't touch a Banana plant, but when I had my Albino, it did.

Cichlids don't have to be gig to destroy plants, a pair of small convits can do anything
Seriously? I'm going to buy a pair and make them grow to 14". :grinno:

Wait no, I have a better idea, I'll make them turn into a huge house and a 600g tank!

fish that are bad with plants: oscars, silver dollars, pacu, chinese algae eaters

I am having success with plants in my african mbuna cichlid tank, I just planted the plants all in one spot with no room to dig between them and I also have a few plants latched onto rocks and driftwood(anubias, java fern). the trick with these cichlids is to also give them plenty of digging spots.
