I would have to say 4 years has been my maximum. Kept several aros and
some cichlids for 3-4 years. always change fish after 2-3 years . I guess i get bored easily. But its safe to say i will keep at least one of my rays and my aros for at least 4 years.

Im hoping to break the 4 year barrier. Will let you guys know in a few years.

ive kept my oscar and managua for a year now... thats the longest since i just started keeping fish!!!

My very first fish was an oscar about 3 and a half years ago.

Still got him, so 3.5 years.

26 months, for a certain female JD. hardly my favorite fish..

I'd keep most of my guys for life if I could, but unfortunately real life always gets in the way of things.. ill only manage about 2 more years for my fish :(

The fish I've kept the longest would have to be my bala sharks. They were just tiny little things when I rescued them two years ago. I have had them in tanks from 20g ~240G since I've had em. They get big but destructive when theyre mating or playing.

My very first fish was a red belly, I've had him for almost 4 years.

I have some irridescent sharks that are nearly 20 years old though.

I've had to give up a large number of fish due to my Navy assignments over the years. There are a couple of fish I've been fortunate enough to find sitters for during my deployments. I kept an ornate bichir for 16 years and a mbu puffer for 18 years.

I had a Rhom for 10+ years. Died from a power failure. Temp went low and no oxygen. I was away for the weekend. When I came home he was dead.

The mbu was about 26" and died from the relocation snafu when part of my boxes went to Chicago while I went to Mississippi. I checked all my boxes as luggage on my flight and paid an additional $980 for excess baggage. The airline rerouted about $4k worth of fish that were doa and only partially refunded me just the excess baggage money. And, 2 of the boxes that did arrive with my flight were run over by a forklift or baggage cart tractor where I also lost my female FRT and my colony of 15 Mpimbwe frontosa.
