why are snakehead being killed???
how are snakehead in nj??

snakeheads arnt in new jersey,(have been found in PA, MD, VA) but with all of the media atention about shs people think they are these horrrible fish that will attack you and everything and breed like rabbits and with in a year they will be the only fish that lives in the body of water and then they will crawl to the next body of water and keep going till there are no fish left in america. thats basicaly the impression you get when you read the articles but anyways people catch a bowfin which is a common fish across america and they look simular to shs and people kill the bowfins thinking they are sh hope this ansews your question.

I hooked a bowfin on a Rapala with 40 lb. spiderwire. The fish was no more than 5-6lbs. It broke my line within 10 seconds. These fish are tough. My only concern with them is that I have heard they eat anything including many gamefish. Any know of their diet?

I am sure they do eat a lot of gamefish, I don't see how this would be of concern to people though, they are a native species and have been living with and eating other natives for a very long time.

they mostly eat invertebrates

i one i have about 15" eats mainly crayfish but will eat goldfish if hungry in nature they do eat baby bass but so do turtles and birds and gar and frogs and other bass so don't worry about them eating gamefish i would rather fish in a lake with a few big bass than a bunch of little ones
