OK - I am planning a drive from Massachusetts down to Florida, and would VERY MUCH appreciate any input about good spots for

1) Netting cool stuff - (NOT COLLECTING) Just to have fun with my nets.

2) Fishing for unusual fish - non-natives, invasives, and native fish that are not common.

So, basically, anyone along the coast between MA and FL, feel free to let me know where I should go.

I am most interested in netting and observing all these crazy non-natives (Cichlids, different cats, etc)

Maybe Florida is the only place to do this, but I would appreciate some spots to visit, so that my trip isn't "mostly driving"

So guys... where do I go?

Where in Florida are you going to?

That's just it... I have no set destination or route. That's why I'm asking. This is just a general drive to make all these observations (Might make for a cool article on here)

(Pointers on CHEAP motels would be great, too.)

Make sure you come to the springs in N. Florida... In Alachua County (gainesville, alachua, I75 and US441) head to high springs and ask directions to Poe, Blue, or Rum Island. Bring a mask and snorkel. No invasives (yet, I hope) but lots of cool natives and crystal clear water. 72 degrees year 'round. Then go down to Ocala and check out Silver Springs. Its a sorta park like place with some rides and such. Do the glass bottom boats - more natives, and lots of invasives. Plecos 18+ inches long, etc. Worth the parking and admission to see what N. Florida used to be like...

You get to stop anywhere you get a suggestion to go,and you have no set destination. You obviously have the gross resources to do this adventure.I am very jealous. Good travels man....

Thanks for the advice thus far.

I am in fact just a poor college student. (See my question about cheap motels!) I just want to see the entire East Coast before tying myself up at the plant store I am working on starting up.

But more or less, it will be a straightforward trip from North to South. No set desination means : North or South FL?

Thanks!

VVatever - Not going for another good few weeks - but ... first time doing this... hope it'll be fun (Not if I don't know where to go LOL)

Well, if you make it to N Florida with some notice on a not-Tues or Thurs I could take a day off work, take you to the springs (Poe and Blue are my favs), maybe get up to a shooting range, maybe get a beer if you are 21+, etc. .... prob with Tues and Thurs until July since I teach in the evenings (530-7)

Sant - make sure you go to Sebastian inlet....one of the most shark infested surf areas in North America. Maybe get youself some nice specimen.

Also if your doing the 95 route, which I have done a few times there are about 4 strip club/hotel (called strip houses). Cheap but only can rent by the hour.
