Fishing/collection season starts tomorrow....and were suppose to get 8-15 inches of snow tomorrow....d'oh

No fishing for me. Maybe in another month, if spring ever gets here...
Where was the picture in your avatar taken?

I have been fishing at least 3-4 days of the week. Typically twice a day usually morning, afternoon or evening. The severe thunderstorms, heavy rains and cold is stopping me now. It's crazy last few weeks 68 to 72 and sunny. This week 50-58, cold and rainy.

I found a bluegill with pink and found more with pink on half of the body. The half pinks all died from swallowing the hooks. Trying to find more but the rains pose a problem. Funny thing, I have fished in this lake before and never came across these bluegills. They were caught closer to the beginning of the lake.

Yup I thoroughly intend to be out there in my waiters no matter how bad its snowing right now. The picture is Snowfalls on the Little Androsccoggin River which flows behind my house. Snowfall though is actually about 20-30 miles north of where I live.

Spotfin I take it you are farther north? The ponds and lakes are still frozen over down here but the rivers are clear in most spots

I'm in Pittston, a few miles south of Augusta. The Kennebec opened up a few weeks ago, but lakes and ponds are still frozen over. I guess the regulations have changed so that now you can fish open water even though there is still ice on rest of the lake/pond. This applies to most of the state I think.

I went collecting yesterday. Dipnetting only, caught a huge amount of grass shrimp, tadpoles, barred sunfish, and one crappie, all of which got tossed back. I also caught another pirate perch, now I've got two, and two little itty bitty eels, like 3-4" long. One is still almost transparent. Into my 2.5 they go, until they grow enough to get bumped up to something bigger, right now, they would get eaten. A little bullhead about 2.5" rounded it out at that site. Odd thing is, never caught tadpoles there before. I collect there alot, grass shrimp make great fish food! Also theres loads of foxtail and anarchis, plus others that don't like aquarium life much. I had also put out a minnow trap, baited with canned tuna, and caught two larger eels. One of the eels ate a worm out of my hand today. 2nd day in the tank! That's gotta be some kinda record!

yup i caught 1 tree, 1 river bed and 1 freshwater mussel. But I was able to set my trap which was good and I got to try out my new waders. They worked well considering the water was high 30s to low 40s.
