Last week I was visiting family in Gulf Breeze, Fl (Pensacola Beach area). Unfortunately the wind was blowing 20mph+ all week so the seas where rough. We made it out in our 24' CC only once. We trolled the pass at about 0930 for an hour or so. No takers. We pulled up and ran 8 miles in 3-4ft seas to some live bottom in 100ft of water. We boated 3 schoolie king mackeral (8-10lbs) two really nice spanish mackeral and several bobos. We tried to bottom fish but water was way to rough. by 1300 waves were coming in at 6-8ft!! We pulled up and headed home. Right as we entered the pass we see something HUGE. At first we thought it was a whale but I noticed its caudal fin was vertical so SHARK!!! We get up to it and it was a whale shark nearly the length of our 24' boat!! It was strange seeing him in such shallow water. He was headed due south out to sea. We followed him for about 30 minutes untill we couldnt handle the waves any more as they were literally crashing through the boat. It was the best thing Ive ever seen. At some points we were so close I could have almost reached out and touched him!
Any how I did some more fishing. My first day I fished the Pensacola pier. The kings where hitting like mad and there had to have been at least two dozen landed that morning and some had some good size to them. I didnt catch anything as I lost all 6 of my king rigs on sharks. They were everywhere. I had never seen anything like it. I saw at least 12 BIG sharks including bulls and a hammerhead pushing 10ft. I hooked a spinner shark. Spinners are similiar to black tips but when hooked they JUMP! Mine was an easy five footer and totally cleared the water a few times before finally breaking off. My knees where knocking after that.
I also wade fished the grass flats in the bay one day. I caught three specks from 12-15", a couple small mangrove snapper around a dock and thats about it.
Anyhow that was my trip and sorry my camera didnt work or Id have pics!
