I'm looking at fishing in the fox river near Green Bay Wisconsin for a shortnose it long nose gar.

Do you guys have any tips on fishing for these? Like when what to use ect?

Thanks

From what I have seen here in mn they are more active mid to late summer. Rivers will be lower and clearer so you could be able to sight fish them. Rope lures work for long nose.

Thanks. My buddy fishes for them with just rope attached to string and they bite it and get there teeth stuck. Im looking to catch a small one (<12") for my tank this summer so we will see.

White nylon rope is the way to go. You unravel it so its "frayed" and looks just like a lure when your done. It can be hard to hook them due to their bony jaws. The nylon rope gets caught in their teeth if that makes sense so no actual hooks are necessary. Good luck!

sounds good. Im looking at youtube videos on how to do it. Hopefully i can get one this summer

I am planning on hitting the same river later this summer! Let me know how it goes.
Regarding the rope lures, I've heard some pretty mixed things as far as safety to the fish. As a catch and release vegetarian (flame away), this is my main concern. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I plan on keeping the gar if its small enough. Im not going to be going until later summer too. Gars dont surface until the water gets warmer
