I'm currently in Sao Paulo state Brazil and noticed there is a thriving industry whereby people maintain man made fishing ponds stocked with a huge variety of fish! There is a general charge to enter and fish, you pay for the fish you keep (per/kilo) and they supply everything you need for fishing for various charges (bamboo pole=3 R, bait=2 R ect) and some offer beer/fried fish. Most will filet your fish and package it for you.

I will be in Brazil for another 3 years but might come back to the US after this time. I would like to begin a new business if I return and am pondering if this would be a good investiment.

Is anyone here doing this kind of business in the US? How is it working out for you, where do you buy your fish wholesale? Do you enjoy it?

Here in the midwest, there are pay lakes. Most of them you pay a daily fee and you can keep whatever you catch, as long as it does not exceed state limits. I have never seen one that supplies your fishing tackle but most sell bait and snacks. All of them that I have seen are owned and operated by farmers that just do this to supplement their income.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't look like a huge moneymaker but looks like a ton of fun/work. I currently work in biotechnology (bovine/equine) and the embryo culture techniques in fish look quite similar to what I use with mammalian embryo culture. Seems like I could do this kind of thing as an occasional means of income for retirement. I'll continue to look into it. Let me know if anyone else has experience with setup and basic cost for fish.
