I went to Ecuador for a few weeks this past June and July. The third week was in the Amazon basin (Rio Coca area). We didn't fish much, but we set a gill net one night for a little sample of what was living in the area and we also went fishing with little pieces of line with hooks. Here is some of what we caught.
Shovelnose cat
Some sort of pleco
Another cat
We did the hook and line fishing for piranha, which were REALLY hard to hook (they just nip and bolt)...but delicious
yet another cat species
Then when it got dark, we went out in search of something else
The guide decided to lasso one of the spectacled caiman and bring it into the boat
He was released on a sand bar just a little upriver
We also saw several more including a black
I've got hundreds of other pictures from around the country and the Galapagos Islands and I'll be putting them up bit by bit
