alright i have a topic i feel if hard to figure out. i have this private pond that isnt too big maybe 75 yards across at the most and in a circular shape.. this pond is loaded with bass! i pulled out almost 60-70 bass in a 6 hour day! can this pond get fished out doing only catch and release. it seems to slow down when ive been there all week. what do you think?

You catch lots of dinky bass or what? If you caught too many dinky bass (between 8-12")...keep some bass for eating and release any big bass as breeder and predator for small bass.

^ agreed. Pond management begins with the fish. Populations of small bass produce awesome bluegill ponds if done correctly and ponds with small bluegill populations often produce the best bass. Overstocking either of the species will stunt growth because of a limited amount of food. If you find that the bass you are catching are small. Take some out, this leaves more food for the big boys. You might not catch as many but most fisherman will tell you that 1 nice bass is more rewarding then 100 dinks.

Did you develop this pond? Sounds interesting, any pics?

Yes, here in New York you can catch like 50 porgies (5-15 inches only 20 per person) in 6 hours with no fight or thrill, but the stripe bass you usually average in about 2-4 stripers in a 8 hour period... and these guys are the states most wanted sport fish by fisherman because of thier fight and size!

Huge difference between a private pond and oceans....

I have pictures. On Saturday we prolly had around 20-30 dinks. Maybe 1-3 or 1/5 are dinks. But all the others are atleast 3-5 pounds. The biggest was 8.5-9 pounds and we usually catch 1 7 pounder every time we go there. This is on private property and we really don't know if we are aloud to fish so we keep it low profile. I don't think it is stocked it might have been a while ago. Do you think going there alot during the week after school the bass will eventually slow down? We do not take any and maybe 1 for every 200 die from a bad hook or something.

If the pond is producing 7+lbers in a Northern state, i think it is fine and wouldnt mess with it. Bass dont like being caught, so i would definitly say it shuts them down for awhile. Imagine getting a hook in your face after trying to eat something and being man handled and your picture taken, you probably wont eat for a few days either. Take it easy on the fish and youll be able to fish there for a while to come.
