I went fishing with a friend on the MN River today, it was an adventure to say the least. We started by taking a mile hike to an old abandoned bridge. This bridge used to be for cars to cross, but was replaced by a much larger one later. We saw some bas in the water and he cast at them, hooking one and hauling it 40 ft through the air to the top of the bridge. No pics of that, sorry. When we crossed that bridge, we hiked to a smaller abandoned bridge, this one only ten feet above the water. He failed to tell me that the planks were removed and we would have to cross it by balancing on the I beams, I was terrified. That's a smaller pic toward the bottom. I caught one nice LMB there on a plastic frog. No pic of that either. The fishing was slow, so we decided to go the main part of the river and catch some carp. On the way back to the car he spotted a snake, and proceeded to chase it through the woods like Steve Irwin. I spotted another one, curled by the path and pointed it out. I thought it was a Timber Rattlesnake, so I was again terrified when he grabbed it by the tail and it snapped at him. Later found it to be a Fox Snake, they are not venomous, but will inflict a painful bite. To terrified for pics there too.
Now to the main part of the river. We had great success catching Freshwater Drum, and I hooked a big carp but my hook popped out. My friend kept 3 small drum to quarantine, and one may go in my native tank if they do well in quarantine. A large barge passed us, shot some pics of that. For scale, you can see a man standing on the deck. Was a good time, I think we're going back in a couple weeks to land a monster carp. We found a turtle nest on the way back, looked like a successful hatch with over 12 broken eggshells counted.
