Besides the pay to fish lakes, are there any good fishing places? I live in torrance and I have yet to find one. If you guys know any place in the oc or near it, it would be really helpful :-) I'm taking my gf for her first time freshwater fishing and I don't want her to get stumped out of the sport :-) thanks!

fw in socal is a bit harder. you can try el dorado for bass, blue gils. if your willing to travel farther. diamond valley lake, big bear, Castaic Lake , irvine lake.

Balboa park, LA river, Hansan dam. These are the only places I know that do no cost anything to fish. Balboa park you are almost certain to catch fish, lots of invasives though. Hansan dam don;t go to a lot but I have yet to catch a fish. I see lots of small bass in the shallows. Some guys tell me there is some sunfish and catfish.

I'm not sure about the oc area but in Riverside county we have lake Perris, Diamond Valley and lake Skinner. I've had decent luck at these places but DV sucks without a boat.
