fishing spot in Miami ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was there last month, in South Miami, caught lots of Mayans, Midas and Oscars and 1 Peacock. I did see a lot of 3-7" Peas but no big ones in the canal even thou my guide catches them often there. I caught my pea in Alligator Alley.

I've been going once a year, peacocks I've found in Tamarac going south I did my best in the Everglades, spot fishing....

Do any of you guys know Florida's regulations on transporting fish? I plan on driving their next month for a family vacation and would like to bring something back for my cichlid tank. can you take live fish out of Florida or is that against the law? I cant find anything specific about taking fish from the state on the internet.

From what I found, only thing you can't transport are the invasive species such as Walking Catfish, Snakehead, etc. You can take any cichlid with you. I took home 45 fish including 1 Pea, Mayans and Oscars.

Blue Lagoon is pretty good. Enter at Maceo Park in little Havana it has a small boat launch with a dock, signs saying no fishing...fish small top water poppers or small crank baits bright colors and you should catch a bunch might be covered by weeds bring small rubber lizards I usually just fish this dock and catch 10 peacockbass all pretty small good size for transporting. If you rent a kayak and go into the lagoon you could hook up with some big snook there are drop offs if you fish them at night the snook will be feeding on the small cichlids in the rocks use 2-3" rattle traps with metal leaders. Good luck and leave some PCB for me!
