Hello everyone, so I am currently in the process of doing a fishless cycle using ACE hardware pure ammonia for a 90 gallon aquarium I will be using to house a couple Jack Dempsey cichlids once I am done. Anyways so I have actually had an aquarium with cichlids before however when I did it the first time I followed the advice from the people at petsmart and used instant cycle and put fish in there instantly. I had found out eventually that isn't a good way to do it or so I am told so I decided to cycle it the right way this time. so originally I had a couple fish in there but I decided to take them back to the store and get some ammonia and a test kit instead. so I followed the fishless cycling guide I was going off of which had a dosage calculator on it and told me to dose my aquarium to 4 ppm with ammonia. And it also told me to add some fish food to it as well. I added some pellets and left them for a couple days I want to say before eventually as I just let it sit and tested my aquarium daily. unfortunately I couldn't get anything to use to seed this aquarium so I expected it would take a little longer than normal. Now after about a week I was told I should do a water change because I might have went a little over 4ppm. So I did the water change when I noticed some little white worms inside the water, they are almost unnoticeable until you put some aquarium water in a bucket. I did a water change that day and re added the ammonia up to about 3ppm. It has been about another week since then and my ammonia levels have stayed the same. However, I am noticing that the little white worm like bugs are getting stuck to the glass above the surface and obviously dying there as the ones I can see there havnt moved in days. I can't see any in the water or sand still like I said you would almost have no idea anything was in there until. But not if you look at the glass above the water closely you can tell. Also on my lid I have one stuck that has been there for days which appears to be bigger than most. The one on the lid almost looks like it could be a hair but it is white. I guess I don't even know if they are worms other than that is what they look closest too. I have been doing some reading and I guess the closing thing they resemble is perhaps ditritus worms. But on a video I seen those were much thicker looking than what I have. My question is this, does anyone know what I am talking about? Has anyone had them? and any advice as far as what I should do regarding my aquarium since I am cycling? I have been told to step up water changes but since I am cycling I am unsure. Someone else told me not to worry about it until I am done. I am new to aquariums still so I am not sure if this is something I should be worried about or not. Anyways I just want to thank everyone here for all help and advice in advance. I look forward to becoming a member of the community.
