Ok, I think I've got the basics of the fishless cycling thing down, and intend to give it a shot on my new 350g next week. One question: For a tank this size, how much ammonia to add each day? Looking for a metrics in ounces/teaspoons/cups as opposed to "drops per gallon". (I can't count drops to 1,750! :( ) Thanks. GBG

first off i think you need 175 drops not 1750. next, you could count how many drops are in a teaspoon then divide 175 by that number and that will give you how many teaspoons

Soggy: Most of the posts I've seen suggest about 5 drops per gallon, which equals 1,750 drops for a 350, not 175. :( Is 5 drops/g too much ion your experience?

Excellent suggestion re: drops in a teaspoon and then divide, thanks. I should've thought of that myself-- I feel lile an idiot! ;)

To concentration of ammonia differs depending on brand of "pure" ammonia, as it's not really pure, but a solution of water and ammonia. I've always used enough capfuls of ammonia to get around 4 ppm in your original application. I think for the brand of ammonia I was using to cycle my 360 gallon, it amounted to approximately 4 capfuls.

Thanks icthyophile. How long do I need to wait after I add the ammonia before testing the water?

Enough for it to circulate around the tank, say 10 minutes or so, depending on your turnover rate.
