quick question, when buying a bulkhead fitting for the bottom of my 180. do i order a fitting based on the outer diameter of the of the fitting, or does it go by the size of the pipe that the bulkhead uses. I ask this because the hole in the bottom of my 180 is 2 1/2 inches, the threaded size of my bulkhead fitting ( that is broken ) is 2 3/8 but the bulkhead fitting that i have uses a 1 1/2 inch pipe. I am confused i guess because the hole is 2 1/2 on the tank but i cant seem to find a 2 1/2 inch bulkhead so i know it must be something else. I hope this makes sence....im really tired right now........

thanks, chris.

i agree! the pipe are sold by the size of their drain hole or pipe hole. if you want something about the hole diameter needed to fit it go to ..

marinedepot.com or drsfostersmith.com

they will tell you how big your hole size should be to fit the bulkhead...

if they say 1 1/2 inch bulkhead .. that means the pipe drain is 1 1/2 inches but the hole size it needs to fit it to your tank is much bigger.

hopefully your not getting confused.
