Howdy,
The classic Eheims have grates below and above the filter media to allow water flow near the intake and outlet of the canister. Unfortunately, the legs on these tend to break off after several years of use. And gluing them back on doesn't last too long.
I simply cut a piece of clear plastic pipe the length of the leg, and attached it with zip ties.
Seems to work, I thought I'd share, with pics.
