what can i do. the tank had velvet. ive treated it and lost one fish the other lived but i found a new home for it. it was a breeding pair and no use having one fish in a breeder. im gonna put some convicts in there to get some feeder fish goin but i dont want to risk another outbreak.especially if feeding to my community tank.is the disease still in there? is there something i can do other than empty the tank and start over. should i pitch the gravel and get new? if i have to start fresh i will but i dont have the money in the budget at the moment to buy new gravel and stuff to set up the tank.

i treated the disease with copper sulphate and it has been cleared up for about 2 1/2 weeks.

If there are no fish for the velvet to use as hosts it will die off. Just leave the tank empty for like two weeks to be safe. Also do a 75% water change.

That could also kill any fish you put in there.

Bleach will definitely kill everything. You would need to make sure that you do a couple water changes and make sure to use dechlorinator on the tank.

im no expert but is it possible that you could kill all the velvet by doing like a 50% WC and not dechlorinating the water beforehand and just letting the chlorine kill it all off? course then again that'd kill ur good bacteria too so i guess that wouldnt be all that beneficial =\

i thought about running it with no fish idea one. bleach was actually idea two but im really really weird about chemicals near my tanks and i have never done anything like that. as for the chlorine in the water i have a well and no water conditioner is needed but i use prime anyway. no chlorine here tho. but i can get city water if needed.

also if i leave it running with no fish in it and i put food in it everyday or float shrimp in a media bag will it keep the tank cycled?

Just drop in a small pinch everyday.

thats what i thought. i just figured it would be much longer to take it down and re cycle the tank plus waiting till i can afford new stuff. i think im gonna go that route and just keep it running. anyone say otherwise? any other ideas?
