Fixing cracks in tank with Silicone

I have a cracked empty tank... i got it from my cousins who are getting rid of it

will silicone i got from my LFS work to seal the cracks to prevent water from leaking out?

if necessary i could post pics tomorrow

i had a 37 i cracked.fixed it with silicone also used extra piece of glass to help sure it up.

what size tank?
how big of crack?
its not the leaking part you need to worry about
its the crack giving out from pressure "i think"

Definately need a pic, need to know where the crack is and how big.

i think its a 36 gallon
the crack is somewhat big
i siliconed it up.. im going to fill it to see if it will leak

Im sure the pressure of the water will eventually break it. It's not if, but when. Do you really wanna chance waking up one morning with a soaked floor and an empty tank full of dead fish?
