Hello,
Joined this site to see if anyone can help me, i currently have a pike fish, Maganese Chichlid, Arowanna, and a FL Gar. i want them to eat more healthy, but am noticing that they all will only eat feeder fish and crickets, i tried pellets and flakes and all that, but with no luck. on top of this, i think i made a mistake by adding in a wolf fish to my tank. so far the wolf fish has not attacked any of my other fish, but i am worried due to rumors and aggressiveness that i have herd. Any advice??

i have to agree, the wolf was a bad option. unfortunately, none of the other fish are really choice tankmates for gar either.in my experience pikes can be suprisingly aggressive for their sizes, manganese cichlids are known to be aggressive aren't they? how big is the silver at the moment? they usually get much larger than fl gars and this, coupled with their boisterous behaviour tends to make them poor tankmates for gar.

imo your tank is currently a ticking time bomb, and if you don't want to lose fish you'd be smart to start seperating fish or getting rid of some. if you really intend on keeping gar then none of your current fish can be considered good tankmates. or you could go S.A with the silver and pike cichlid. i really wouldn't mix the wolf ot manganese with anything you'd mind losing.

happy new year, good luck and keep us updated!

What do you mean by "pike fish?" I keep a pike cichlid with a florida gar and an arowana and there are no problems.

Right now my florida gar is bigger than my black arowana and there is no aggression between them. The arowana, however, is growing faster than the gar and is becoming more boisterous about eating. The more daring it becomes about stealing food, the more dangerous the situation is becoming...

The Manganese Cichlids are pretty nasty, so I'd be worried about that. It or the Wolf will probably kill each other eventually.

thanks guys, basicially my pike, mag, gar, and arowanna are all pretty peaceful, i just want them to eat more healthy. as for the Wolf fish, i will give it up for adoption if anyone is intrested. i just want my monsters to eat a little bit more healthy?? any ideas guys?

my arowanna is not a silver, its a Australian, and its about 6-7 inch, while my gar is about 71/2-8 inch.

which australian aro is it? jardini or lietchardi?
both can be quite aggressive at a larger size especially with other tankmates than could threaten dominance. That is stereotyping however.
wolf and manganese often don't get along well
but mate if it works for you then don't worry about it, just be warry
just because it shouldn't work doesn't mean it won't haha:D

thx guys, and my aus. aro is a jardini. but csn anyone give me any advice on how to feed them better??

fix the tank setup. this will make it easier for them to eat. try shrimp or smelt.
but basicly it boils down to like my dear friend xander pointed out, u have a ticking time bomb of a tank. u will lose fish, not if or maybe, u will the only real question is when. GL man and hope u get it sorted out. happy new year!
