Somewhere
I am posting this now because it seems there are a lot of people who are not aware of this fact... which surprises me... (I have had a few people tell me they had NO IDEA that this happened!!!)
but as of July 1st 2010 All Reptiles of Concern are officially and completely banned in Florida. You can no longer get the permit for them and they cannot be owned as personal pets. As far as I know... ONLY zoos and commercial breeders can get permits now.. anyone who had the permit before this went into effect is grandfathered in and can keep their animals.. however anyone who didn't has no chance now.

Reptiles of Concern are:

Reticulated Pythons Python reticulatus

Burmese Pythons Python molurus

Green Anacondas Eunectes murinus

Amethystine Pythons Morelia amethystinus

Scrub Pythons Morelia kinghorni

African Rock Pythons Python sebae and natalensis

Nile Monitor Varanus niloticus

for any of you who STILL don't think that all of this is actually serious..... this is what happens...... Keep on turning a blind eye and let it pass by, you are causing the rest of us to suffer.

that sucks

I live in South Florida(west broward) and i think its great that they are finally doing something! Reticulated Pythons are everywhere... so common I often see Reticulated Pythons as roadkill. They are eating up native EVERYTHING from small birds to gators! Even heard of them eating small dogs. thats just my two cents.

Irresponsible people is what the cause of this situation is. Decades from now we could likely have a ban on dogs and cats due to irresponsible owners.

Technically dogs should already banned based on the logic used to ban reptiles in some states. I don't know the numbers but i would assume dogs have killed/hurt more people than reptiles.

I guarantee it, and cats are freakin everywhere. I am glad they are doing something but i do think they should make a permit accessible. So sad thiss is.

Yea cats, the funny thing is i've seen feral cats along the main park road of the everglades but not pythons. For the ecological impact argument cats should definitely be banned as a cat will kill way more native animals than a snake.

Sadly, this is true. I am a cat lover but feral cats have a serious impact on the environment. Theyre like giant rats with claws and canines.
